How do you stop the iphone / ipod touch showing the password?

when you type in a password in an iphone or an ipod touch it shows the letter you just pressed for about 2 seconds then turns into a black dot, how do you stop this from showing, i know you can just press another letter and it goes but it still shows the letter of the last button you pressed.
is there a way to stop it from showing the last letter?
ps. this has been put in as a feature by apple in the 2.0 update if i can remember right...

There is no way to stop from showing the letter. This feature is annoying and I think apple wasnt thinking about the chances that a person could be in need of a new app or something that requires a password and have a mean friend right beside them that likes to steal things. I agree that the letter is annoying.
